Garlic is one of the healthiest foods, and it is used worldwide not only as a tasty addition to dishes but also as a remedy and preventive measure for many diseases.
Russians are well aware that garlic is beneficial for the immune system, and when combined with apple cider vinegar, we get a tasty, different pickled garlic that can stand in the pantry for months and be available to us for a ‘dose of health’. You only need a few ingredients for this traditional Russian recipe! Prepare it in smaller jars, and eat one clove daily with a meal. Ingredients:
- Five heads of garlic
- Half a liter of water
- Two deciliters of apple cider vinegar
- Two tablespoons of sugar
- Two tablespoons of salt
Preparation:
Peel the garlic, fill sterilized jars with separated cloves, and in a saucepan, heat water, vinegar, salt, and sugar. Let it boil for about ten minutes, then pour over the garlic.
Close the jars well, place them in a dark and cool place, and do not open for at least a week. Optionally, you can add peppercorns, bay leaves, or dill to this pickle.
If you notice that the cloves are starting to change color, don’t worry as long as the jars are properly sterilized and closed; it is a chemical process between garlic and vinegar, and in a few days, the cloves will regain their normal color.
